In our federal lawsuit with Chelsea to protect our rights as a Welcoming City, we learned yesterday that the Court denied our motion for a preliminary injunction, finding that the threatened withdrawal of federal funding is not imminent enough at this time to warrant preliminary relief. 

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne is sharing that starting today, October 1, 2025, updates to the City of Somerville’s Condominium Conversion Ordinance take effect. These updates are part of the City’s continued efforts to prevent residential displacement and enact stronger protections for tenants.  

“Amidst an ongoing housing crisis, we must act to protect our residents,” said Mayor Katjana Ballantyne. “These reforms are another step to keeping long-time residents in their homes and preserving the social fabric of our neighborhoods.”
