Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Board of Health today announce additional orders intended to slow the spread of novel coronavirus. The following includes orders regarding the personal service and retail sectors as well as interim requirements for construction. Previous orders have closed schools, limited events, closed playgrounds, suspended team sports, and closed restaurants and bars except for pickup and delivery.

Update (3/25/2020): The Somerville Construction Advisory issued on Monday, March 23rd, remains in full force.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Board of Health today ordered that all non-essential construction work cease operation during the statewide closure of non-essential businesses through Tuesday, April 7, announced by Governor Charlie Baker.

"Governor Baker's statewide stay-at-home advisory is the right thing to do. The coronavirus represents a threat to our public health unlike anything any of us have seen before. None of us is immune to it and it spreads like wildfire. If we don't take social distancing seriously and stay at home as much as is possible, this disease will overwhelm our healthcare system, creating a crisis for anybody with any kind of medical condition. The Governor today took a vital step to protect the people of Massachusetts. Now it is up to each of us to do our best to keep COVID-19 in check.

The start of street sweeping in Somerville has been delayed by two weeks to Monday, May 4. Normally, street sweeping takes place from April 1 until December 31. As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 emergency, we will decide if the delay will be extended and share that information as it becomes available.

• As of 3 p.m. today, March 28, a total of 41 Somerville residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and 9 of them have since recovered.
• Mayor Curtatone extended the closure of City buildings until at least Monday, May 4. The City’s 311 line remains available 24/7.
• The start of street sweeping has been pushed back to Wednesday, April 15.

On Saturday, March 28, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Board of Health announced an Emergency Order Establishing a Moratorium on Eviction Enforcement in the City of Somerville for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency. The order, which applies to both residential and commercial evictions and goes into effect immediately, prohibits the physical act of eviction within the city limits so as to provide for the health, safety and stability of those who live in and serve our community.
