The Somerville Bridge Hopper, the City’s free shuttle service to help residents navigate Green Line Extension construction detours, will suspend operations effective April 1, 2020, until further notice.

The Bridge Hopper shuttles have served riders near both the Broadway and Washington Street bridges since April 2019. This suspension is intended to preserve the public health and safety of shuttle drivers and passengers during the COVID-19 crisis.

Tragically, this morning we got word of the first coronavirus-related death in Somerville. My first thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased. Words cannot encompass the pain of your loss, but know that I share your grief. I suspect everyone else in the city will be joining me as they hear this news. Even though we're all socially distanced from each other, thousands of people will be feeling the sadness of your loss in their hearts.

Today Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced that residents and property owners will have extra time to pay their property tax, excise tax, and water bills. He also announced that all City-sponsored or permitted public events and large gatherings will be canceled in Somerville through June, including the City’s annual Fourth of July fireworks.

Today the City of Somerville’s 311 Constituent Services Division launched a new initiative to provide constituents with access to one-on-one expert guidance during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

The COVID-19 Community Support Team, an extension of 311 Constituent Services, is made up of more than 20 volunteers with specialized knowledge and expertise in healthcare and/or social support services available to people and businesses affected by the pandemic.
