Join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Somerville Department of Health and Human Services, and the Somerville High School Gender and Sexuality Awareness Alliance (GSAA) on Tuesday, November 23, at 3:30 p.m. for a ceremony in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance. The ceremony will take place on the City Hall concourse, 93 Highland Avenue. The ceremony’s speaking agenda will include Mayor Curtatone, Somerville LGBTQ Liaison Jack Treanor, and local transgender educator and activist Matisse DuPont, followed by a raising of the Transgender Pride Flag.

The City of Somerville Traffic Board will hold a virtual public hearing on Wednesday, December 1, regarding the Somerville Traffic Commission July 15, 2021, actions making regulatory changes for the College Avenue Mobility Improvements Project. 

Because this winter begins in an odd-numbered year, snow emergency parking will be on the odd side of the street all winter, unless posted signage says differently. Check streets signs in your neighborhood so you know where you can park ahead of winter weather. You can also learn more about the City’s snow policies at somervillema.gov/snow.

Please join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Superintendent Mary Skipper, and local elected officials for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovated and reconstructed Somerville High School campus on Wednesday, December 8, at 6 p.m.

The new building opened to students in March 2021 to support the District’s return to in-person learning while final renovations continued on a 750-seat auditorium. Those renovations finished in early November, and all building construction is now complete. 

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone invites all interested to come together to remember those we have lost to COVID-19 and to recognize the many other losses our community has faced throughout the pandemic. We invite attendees to gather for a simple ceremony, a participatory remembrance project, and musical accompaniment on Saturday, December 18 (the rain date), from 1 to 2 p.m., at Symphony Park, 46 Pearl Street. (This event was previously scheduled for December 11, but due to weather will be held on December 18.)

Please join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 2 Councilor J.T. Scott for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the Conway Park athletic field on Thursday, December 9, at 1 p.m. 

To date, this complex project has achieved several critical milestones: The retaining wall has been repaired, contaminants have been removed (with the help of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), and the athletic field, which features a plant-based infill, has been installed and surrounded with new trees.

As we enter the darkest season of the year, an alleyway in Union Square will be lit by a large-scale light sculpture called Iluminaciones by Zebbler Studios. The pixel-mapped LED sculpture debut will be the evening of Thursday, December 9, to kick off the Somerville Arts Council’s month-long Illuminations celebration. Iluminaciones can be found between 329 and 341 Somerville Avenue.
