The City of Somerville seeks an Electrician for the DPW Light & Lines to perform skilled electrical work at the journeyman level. The Electrician will install, test, repair and maintain electrical circuits, wiring systems, fixtures, appliances, and equipment. Troubleshoot and repair faulty electrical wiring, defective electrical equipment, and machinery such as motors, generators, transformers, switches, sockets, etc. Inspect and test circuits and fixtures to locate broken wires, loose connections, blown fuses, faulty switches, grounds, shorts and other defects. Uses common hand tools and electrical OHM test equipment such as meters, voltmeters, ammeters, growlers, multimeters, and other test equipment. May remove, replace, and repair electrical parts. May maintain storage batteries. Perform supervision over helpers and apprentices. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must have knowledge of trade practices and safety regulations.
Must be able to make oral and written reports of work performed.
Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Journeymen’s License.
Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.
