Statement of Duties

Under the Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds, Supervisor of School Facilities & Energy Conservation Management and under the direct supervision of an employee of higher grade, the Junior Building School Custodian Floater performs all custodial duties assigned. This is a safety-sensitive position and has a day schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Clean all reachable walls and HVAC diffusers and ceiling fans and all reachable window glass inside and outside schools, doors, etc.; complete cleaning of all walls and fixtures; clean all stairwells; shampoo all carpets; sweep, wash, strip, wax and buff all floors; dust; change light bulbs; police grounds; sweep walks; cut lawns; remove snow and ice; care for custodial equipment; empty wastebaskets; remove trash; order custodial supplies; make minor repairs to buildings, equipment, heating, lighting, air conditioning, ventilation and plumbing systems.
  • Perform other similar duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have physical ability to do the work.
  • Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.

Work Environment

Work requires agility and physical strength, ability to function in close quarters, and is subject to noise, vibrations, hazards and atmospheric conditions including fumes, dust and air contaminants. Some exposure to outside environmental conditions in performance of job duties, including wet, hot and cold weather.

Physical Skills

Position requires standing/walking most of the day, lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs, pushing/pulling, climbing, reaching, twisting, turning, sweeping, kneeling, bending, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position requires near and far vision and acute hearing, the ability to maintain physical exertion for long periods of time, climb ladders and stairs, and operate hand and power tools and equipment.

 

Motor Skills

While performing the duties, employees are regularly required to use oral communication skills and handle tools and equipment. The position requires balancing, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion to complete tasks.

 

Visual Skills

Visual acuity is required to survey working environment and operate equipment and tools.
