Please note that trash and recycling pickup is on a 1-day delay schedule this week due to Monday's holiday.

The Sanitation Division provides disposal, recycling and hazardous waste services to the residents and businesses of the City of Somerville and the general public so they may enjoy an environmentally cleaner and safer City.

Food Waste Collection Pilot Program

  • The city's food waste collection pilot program will provide curbside food waste collection to a pilot neighborhood in Somerville. In partnership with Garbage to Garden, the City of Somerville will provide weekly curbside food waste collection to up to 1,200 eligible households through mid-2027. 

Mattress/Box Spring Recycling

  • Mattresses and box springs require a $55 Mattress Disposal Sticker that can be purchased online, at the DPW (by credit card, check, or money order), or at City Hall (by cash, check, credit card, or money order). When placing your mattresses and box springs, curbside, be sure not to block pedestrian traffic. Learn about the City's mattress recycling program.

Large Appliance/White Goods Pickup

  • Large appliances require a $25 White Goods Sticker that can be purchased online, at the DPW (by credit card, check, or money order), or at City Hall (by cash, check, credit card, or money order). When placing your white goods, curbside, be sure not to block pedestrian traffic.
