The Welcome Project, an immigrant advocacy group in Somerville, Massachusetts, is excited to welcome Roberto G. Gonzales as the keynote speaker for the 9th Annual YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City event.

Roberto G. Gonzales is a professor of education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His research centers on contemporary processes of immigration and social inequality.

In addition, the evening will include tastes from local immigrant-run restaurants, raffles, a cash bar, and an awards presentation honoring the work of local community leaders, Josh Zakim and Natalicia Tracy.

The awards and all other YUM festivities will kick off at 7:00 PM at The Armory in Somerville with a special VIP Reception at 6:00 PM.  The VIP Reception will offer VIP ticket holders the opportunity to mingle with award recipients and the keynote speaker before the event.  Tickets are available through The Welcome Project’s website www.welcomeproject.org.  College students should contact The Welcome Project to receive a student discount on tickets.

The Welcome Project builds the collective power of Somerville immigrants to participate in and shape community decisions. We do this through programs that strengthen the capacity of immigrant youth, adults and families to advocate for themselves and influence schools, government, and other institutions.
