Mayor Joseph Curtatone and Director of Veterans Services Bryan Bishop announce a brand new ceremony to honor our City’s and our nation’s Veterans. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, November 4, 2018, for the rescheduled Veterans Memorial Parade. Although the weather, unfortunately, did not cooperate for the May edition of the Parade, Somerville will host one of only two parades in the region in honor of Veterans Month in November (the second is the Veterans Day Parade currently planned in Boston for November 11).

The Somerville Veterans Memorial Parade will be similar in format to the Memorial Day Parade and will celebrate the service and sacrifice of our Veterans and their families as we kick-off Veterans month here in Somerville. The Somerville Veterans Memorial Parade will step off from City Hall at noon on November 4, and will follow the same route down Highland Ave. through Davis Square and ending in Teele Square.

“This is an exciting time in our City as we present a true celebratory parade honoring Veterans,” said Commissioner Bishop. “With more than 100 units, this parade has the potential of being the largest Veterans Day Parade in the Northeast. Also, this year we will commemorate and celebrate the 100thAnniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended WWI which led the way to the creation of what we now call Veterans Day.”

Please mark your calendars now and join us for our celebration of service. For more information or if you have questions about Veterans services or events, contact Bryan Bishop at 617-625-6600 ext. 4710 or bbishop@somervillema.gov.
