This free-to-enter intergenerational pop-up will be a public space pilot, a living room for the community, a resource center, and an arts, culture, and business incubator. It will be open daily…
About the Event
Come join us for an afternoon of music, art, and community. This free, public concert will feature beautiful, uplifting music for violin, cello, and piano, a community sing-along on a festive, snowy theme, as well a "crankie" with musical accompaniment. What is a crankie, you ask? Well, you'll have to come and find out! For those of you who are in the mood to spend the whole afternoon with us, come as early as noon to decorate a cookie and make merry at the holiday party at the Mystic Learning Center, our wonderful project partner organization.
This project is supported in part by a "Festival and Projects" grant from the Mass Cultural Council. PROGRAM Prelude – Around Hear All Ages Violin Class & Creative Keyboard Ensemble W.A. While we play for you, we want you to listen in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable: stay as long as you can, vocalize, enjoy refreshments, and engage in active modes of listening, using the materials and space we have provided for drawing, moving, and writing to the music. Or, just sit still and appreciate the music and all the different ways of listening going on around you!
The mission of Around Hear is to enrich the life of the City of Somerville by offering innovative, uplifting, free chamber music concerts and community music classes to generationally, culturally, and economically diverse audiences. We collaborate with the Somerville Housing Authority, Mystic Learning Center, local social service organizations, and community-oriented artists to make all of our activities inviting and accessible to all. We especially strive to connect with low-income citizens, children, seniors, recent immigrants, and people with disabilities. We invite all who feel inspired by our music, art, and community-building activities to partner with us.
