Public Hearing to Discuss Removal of Public Shade Trees

Pursuant to M.G.L. Chapter 87, the City of Somerville will hold a virtual public shade tree hearing on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM using Zoom software to consider the removal of the following three public shade trees:

299 Broadway Development

• 299 Broadway- One honey locust: 19” diameter, fair-good condition
• 15 Temple Street (corner of Sewall St and Sewall Ct)- One honey locust: 20” diameter, fair-good condition

Trees are proposed for removal as part of the development of 299 Broadway, a Chapter 40B affordable housing project. Five new street trees totaling 15” in caliper and 68 new trees within the property totaling 160” caliper are planned for replanting.

Edgerly Education Center ADA Parking Conflict

• 33 Cross Street on Bonair St- One red maple: 4” in diameter, good condition

Tree is in conflict with proposed ADA parking space. A new tree will be planted adjacent if possible

The trees identified above have been posted for public inspection. In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 87, any objections to the removal of any of these trees must be submitted in writing to the Tree Warden prior to or at this public hearing. Pursuant to Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023, this Public Shade Tree Hearing will be conducted via remote participation.
