LOCATION
The City of Somerville is inviting all community members to the City’s annual Juneteenth flag raising ceremony.
The program will include a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” remarks, and the raising of the Juneteenth flag.
Juneteenth, recognized annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and enforced the Emancipation Proclamation, effectively ending slavery in the United States. The day is a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the ongoing work towards universal justice, equity, and belonging.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held Wednesday, June 17, at 1 p.m.
