Join community organizations and neighbors to assess how safe, accessible, and comfortable it is to walk in Somerville's Assembly Square.

Join the Somerville Pedestrian & Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC), Assembly Connect, Somerville Alliance for Safe Streets (SASS), and Groundwork Somerville for a walk audit of Assembly Square. A walk audit is a community assessment of how safe, accessible, comfortable, and inviting it is to walk in a defined area.

This walk audit will focus on Assembly Square because the neighborhood is surrounded by the most dangerous roads in Somerville, most of which are owned and operated by the state. The Assembly Square Neighborhood Plan – adopted last July – reflects a strong desire to reconnect the neighborhood with the rest of Somerville and increase access to safe, comfortable, transit-friendly streets. Our goal is to evaluate Assembly Square’s current status, share feedback with relevant decision-makers, and inform future planning efforts in the neighborhood.

We'll meet at 301 Assembly Row, between Caffe Nero and Volo Sports, next to the green shipping container. Participants will split into two groups to cover two walking routes from The Lawn on Foley Street in Assembly Square to Foss Park in East Somerville. Both routes are expected to take about 75 minutes to complete. Participants should expect to be walking or standing during the entirety of this period. Please email somervilleptac@gmail.com if the physical demands of this walk audit will be difficult for you but you’d like to participate/offer feedback in a different way.
