236th Anniversary to be Celebrated at Foss Park with Historic Games, Refreshments Beginning at 10 A.M.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission invite all residents and community members to the City’s 236th Patriot’s Day celebration, to be held at Foss Park on Monday, April 18th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.  Co-sponsored by the Preservation Commission, Historic Somerville, Somerville Museum, East Somerville Main Streets, and Friends of Foss Park, the day’s events will include Colonial games and songs, light refreshments, speeches, and a visit from Paul Revere on horseback on his historic ride from Boston to Lexington through Somerville.

The Commission is also seeking volunteers, ages 15 and up, for this year’s event.  Volunteers will oversee activities and distribute refreshments.  If interested, please contact the Commission’s Executive Director, Brandon Wilson, at BWilson@somervillema.gov or call 617-625-6600 ext. 2532.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with entertainment, games and refreshments, followed by a brief speaking agenda and the arrival of Paul Revere.  Children will receive a “Colonial Times Passport” and are invited to participate in various Colonial-era games.  Children who complete each of the six stations will receive a small prize. Attendees are also encouraged to dress in traditional Colonial attire.
