LOCATION

Thursday, May 5th Barbara Mangum, President of Historic Somerville, Inc. will lead a short tour of the historic Milk Row Cemetery, starting at 6:00 pm.  Tucked between much larger commercial neighbors these fragile grounds offer a welcome oasis on the edge of Union Square.  Founded in 1804 by Samuel Tufts on farmland that was once part of Charlestown, this very compact cemetery contains an extraordinary memorial to those from Somerville who died in the Civil War.   Only open twice a year to the public here’s a chance to see many municipal enhancements to the site in recent years.   Light refreshments at the end of the roughly hour long tour.  Meet at the Cemetery’s front gate at 439 Somerville Avenue, next to Demoulas' Market Basket.   Rain or shine.
