LOCATION

Welcome to the Milk Row Cemetery!

Come visit the City's only 19th century burial grounds, rarely open to the public but will be for a short time during SOMERSTREETS, a street festival to celebrate the closing to all motorized traffic of Somerville Avenue, all the way Beacon Street to Washington Street, from Porter Square to Union Square. The open air festival will occur rain or shine, on Sunday, October 23rd from noon to 4: 00 P.M. This year "The Ghosts of Somerville: Up Close and Intimate" event will be a ghostly open house. Visitors in small groups will be treated to short guided tours of selected grave sites where the resident Ghosts will engage in conversation about their daily lives in centuries past. The organizers promise that "this is an entertaining way to learn something new about Somerville history from those who lived it!"

Warm cider, donuts, and homemade goodies will be offered for sale, plus a raffle of hand carved pumpkins. Entry to the Ghosts event will be by donation (suggestion of $5), to help support the continuing restoration and enhancement of the historic site.

The Milk Row Cemetery is located at 400 Somerville Ave, next to the Market Basket, on the edge of Union Square, Somerville. For more information about the Ghosts event, contact Historic Somerville via www.historicsomerville.org or bmangum411@aol.com or call 617-625-5807, or Brandon Wilson, via bwilson@somervillema.gov or call 617-625-6600, ext. 2532 or go to www.somervillema.gov/historicpreservation.

This event is produced by Historic Somerville, Inc. with assistance from the ArtsUnion Project of the Somerville Arts Council, the Somerville Museum, and the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission.
