The vast majority of Americans know what many African-Americans
participated in the military during the American Civil War, but what is
practically known is the number of Chinese-Americans who also served.

Military experts and scholars estimated that at least 50 Chinese men
were soldiers and sailors in the Union forces. Some were even in the
Confederate forces. For example there was one man from Gloucester, MA

This lecture is presented by Henry Huie Jung.  Henry has worked as an
educator and social worker. He has written extensively about Chinese in

on resettlement issues in the Greater Boston area. He lives with his
wife in Somerville (
