A public hearing for all interested parties will be held by the City of Somerville on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street, Somerville, MA.

This meeting is to inform the public about Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for proposed environmental response actions for The Kiley Barrel Site, answer questions, and elicit comments. This project is funded by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Brownfield Cleanup Grants and a MassDevelopment grant provided to the Somerville Redevelopment Authority and the City of Somerville. The project is being implemented in accordance with the requirements of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's (MassDEP) Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) regulations.

The Site is located in Union Square and consists of eight contiguous parcels, 0 Prospect Street, 20-22 Prospect Street, 264-266 Somerville Avenue, 9 and 10 Milk Place, 8, 14 and 16-20 Bennett Street, as well as a portion of Bennett Street. The Site is currently vacant except for a parking lot at 0 Prospect Street. The Site is owned by the Somerville Redevelopment Authority and the City of Somerville. The grants will be used to remediate environmental conditions at the Site. Remediation activities include soil excavation and backfilling, off-site recycling/disposal of soil, addition of a remedial additive to the groundwater, groundwater monitoring, and the implementation of an Activity and Use Limitation.

An Information Repository has been established at the Somerville City Hall. Persons wishing to review reports and/or other information relative to environmental conditions at the Site should visit the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) on the third floor of Somerville City Hall at 93 Highland Avenue in Somerville, MA, Monday through Wednesday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Thursday between 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM, and Friday between 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM.

Comments about the proposed project and Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) will be accepted at the public meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street, Somerville, MA. Written Comments will be accepted for 30 days following this legal notice and may be submitted to Amanda Maher, Economic Development Specialist, City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 02143 or by e-mail to amaher@somervillema.gov.
