Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Commission for Women announce the Annual Candlelight Vigil in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00 P.M. at the Somerville Public Safety Building, 220 Washington Street. The vigil will include a presentation of the new "Somerville Against Violence" banner by Shamrock Sign & Lettering Co. owner Tisha Sullivan.  

The vigil walk begins at 6:00 P.M. through Union Square, concluding with a speaking agenda at the Public Safety Building from 6:30 P.M. Speakers include Mayor Curtatone, Chairperson of the Commission for Women, Nancy Bacci, Somerville Chief of Police Thomas Pasquarello, and a keynote address by Jason Lydon of The Network/La Red.

Traffic Information

The candlelight vigil participants will leave 220 Washington Street at 6:00 P.M. and walk to the intersection of Prospect Street and Washington (blocking that intersection briefly with police escort), walk along the sidewalk along the square to the intersection of Bow and Union Square (again blocking the intersection), then walk back towards the square (blocking Washington and Webster Avenue intersection).  We'll be on the sidewalk until the intersection of Prospect Street and Washington (blocking that intersection briefly with police escort) then returning to 220 Washington Street at 6:30 P.M.
