Somerville Hosting Reflection on the Anniversary of 2010 Earthquake in Haiti

City of Somerville and the Missionary Church of the Haitian Community will host a reflection and resiliency event on January 12, 2023, at the Missionary Church of the Haitian Community

The Somerville Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Missionary Church of the Haitian Community will host a reflection on the thirteenth anniversary of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Missionary Church of the Haitian Community (100 Temple Street, Somerville, MA, 02145).

Somerville Youth Leaders Participate in Holiday Sticker Shock Campaign

More Than 3,000 Stickers Placed on Liquor Store Bags Reminding Adults Not to Purchase Alcohol for People Under 21

This month, youth leaders as part of Somerville Positive Forces (SPF), a substance misuse prevention youth group that is part of the Somerville Cares About Prevention (SCAP) community-based coalition in Somerville’s Prevention Services division, took to their community to raise awareness about the risks associated with underage drinking. Nationally known as the Sticker Shock Campaign, youth gathered bags from alcohol stores and placed stickers on them reminding adults not to provide alcohol to people under 21 years old.

The City of Somerville’s Mid-Term Ceremonies and Addresses by Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, the incoming City Council President, and the incoming Chairperson of the Somerville School Committee will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. All are invited.

Mayor Ballantyne Dedicates $2M in ARPA Funds to Help Close the Gender Wage Gap: City Seeking Nonprofit Proposals

Two Million in ARPA Funding Is Available for Area Nonprofits to Support Programs That Address Gender Pay Disparity, Particularly for Women of Color; Applications Will Be Accepted Until January 31, 2023

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne announces that the City of Somerville is now seeking proposals that aim to address the gender wage gap, particularly for women of color who face the greatest pay disparity. Programs that create and maintain employment opportunities for low- and moderate-income women residing in the city are sought. The grants are made possible by the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, the Job Creation and Retention Trust, City funds, and funds generated from development impact fees. Proposals will be accepted until January 31, 2023.
