The Somerville Planning Board seeks one full member and one alternate member, and all Somerville residents are invited to apply. A background in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning, and/or land-use law is beneficial but not required. Applicants should be interested in job creation, affordable housing development, and open space and multimodal transportation strategies.

Stay Safe in the Heat This Week

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Boston metro area Wednesday, July 20, with additional days of oppressive heat and humidity forecasted. Residents are urged to take precautions to stay safe. Review the following heat safety tips and ways to keep cool in Somerville. Most importantly, do not leave children or pets in a vehicle even if the windows are open, drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and limit your outdoor activity.

SOMERVILLE OPEN LETTER: Joint Message and Resources Following Shooting in Buffalo, NY

Dear Community, Students, Parents, and Guardians,

On Friday, youth in our City rallied for peace including calling for safety from gun violence and the impacts of racism in all of its forms. It was an act of both frustration and hope, of both concern and determination organized by youth involved with the nonprofit Teen Empowerment. Many of us went, and we were impressed and moved.
