ALDERMEN TO DISCUSS COMMUNITY PRESERVATION ACT, SUBMIT RECOMMENDATIONS THIS WEEK
the regular meeting of the Somerville Board of Aldermen on Thursday, April 11th,
Aldermen will discuss the Community Preservation Committee Ordinance, which had
been introduced by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone on February 28th and referred to
the Committee on Legislative Matters following the passage of the Community
Preservation Act (CPA) by a local electorate on the 2012 ballot. The CPA was passed by Massachusetts State
Legislature in 2000, and allows the City to raise funds for projects

It is with great relief and gratitude to all of our public safety
officials that the second suspect of the horrific Boston Marathon
bombing has been apprehended. We can all breathe easier and sleep better
tonight. It is now up to law enforcement officials to continue to do
their job to understand this catastrophic event and bring those
responsible to justice. We thank them for all that they do to keep us

City awarded FY2013 Community Innovation Challenge Grant to develop data-driven performance management system
City of Somerville and Somerville Public Schools, working in partnership with the
Collins Center at UMass Boston, Tufts University, the Harvard Graduate School
of Education, and the Greater Boston District and School Assistance Center was
awarded one of 27 FY2013 Community Innovation Challenge grants in March 2013 to
launch School StatNet, a regional data-driven performance management system.
Three other cities joined in Somerville's application - Revere, Chicopee, and

program for summer 2013. Based on author Mike Lanza's Playborhood, SomerPlay encourages the use of structured activity

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and
the City of Somerville has formed a Technical Advisory Committee Powder House
Community School to review responses to the City's Request for Proposals (RFP)
seeking partners to reuse and/or redevelop the former K-12 public school site. The
site includes an 87,599-square-foot parcel with an existing 80,857-square-foot
building that can be retained or demolished.

Somerville Historic Preservation Commission sponsors month-long events, culminating with annual awards ceremony honoring Somerville residents and homeowners.

Curtatone and the Somerville Public Schools announce that the City of
Somerville has received a $10,000 grant from Colin Powell's America's Promise
Alliance to support parent/caregiver engagement in early reading. The grant
funds will be used in efforts to be focused in neighborhoods surrounding the
Healey School, in collaboration with community partner agencies, including the
Somerville Public Schools' Somerville Family Learning Collaborative, Shape Up
