LOCATION

Somerville residents have a few more free opportunities to learn gardening basics. After a successful pilot earlier this summer, the City’s Health and Human Services Department will host additional Growing Gardeners workshops for residents who are brand new to gardening in July and October.

Growing Gardeners participants will learn how to plant, assemble, and maintain their own portable milk crate garden that will work well in any small outdoor space. Crates may include a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. All supplies will be provided. Participants should have no previous experience – this class is designed to grow a new group of gardeners in the city!

Sign up to attend one workshop either Friday, July 30, from 4 to 7 p.m., or Saturday, July 31, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the City Hall Annex, 50 Evergreen Avenue. Registration is required. Visit somervillema.gov/GrowingGardeners to reserve a spot.

Future workshops will be held Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2. Registration will open the first week of August. Contact Steven Flythe, Health and Human Services Case Manager, at growinggardeners@somervillema.gov or (617) 448-5347 with questions.

Persons with disabilities who need auxiliary aids and services for effective communication (i.e., CART, ASL), written materials in alternative formats, or reasonable modifications in policies and procedures in order to access the programs, activities, and meetings of the City of Somerville should please contact Nancy Bacci at 617-625-6600 x 2250 or nbacci@somervillema.gov.
