LOCATION

The Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development invites all members of the Somerville community to a presentation to discuss the results of the Spring 2010 bike and pedestrian counts. Discussions will include information about which neighborhoods in the City are the most heavily biked and walked, as well as growth over the past few years in the number of Somervilliens that bike and walk. We’ll also take a look at key corridors and the impact of bike lanes on the number of bicyclists observed.

Please join us for this presentation on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 7 PM at the Somerville Public Safety Building’s Community Room, located in Union Square at 220 Washington Street.

The City of Somerville conducts bike and pedestrian counts at 36 locations across the city with the help of a large group of resident volunteers. The counts are conducted each fall and spring to provide a better picture of how people move throughout the city, especially since a significant percent of Somerville walks or bikes to work. This data can in turn be used to prioritize investments in sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike facilities, as well as to support grant applications.

The City will also be conducting fall counts in early October. Residents who are interested in volunteering can come to the meeting to sign up and pick their locations. For questions, please contact Sarah Spicer at sspicer@somervillema.gov or 617.625.6600 x2519.
