a new police chief and the City wants to hear from the community what
characteristics and qualities they would like to see in a new chief, with a
public hearing scheduled for March 5 and a survey that will be available both
online and in hard copy.

Important Elder Information: Scam Alert

On Thursday afternoon, March 6, an emerging scam was brought to the attention of the Middlesex County District Attorney's
Office, and subsequently shared with the Somerville Police Department.  It was reported that a 90-year-old Somerville woman
was the victim of a "Grandparent Scam" in which she willingly provided funds to an unknown caller posing as an out-of-state attorney, who asked her to assist

SOMERVILLE POLICE CHIEF SELECTION PROCESS UNDERWAY

With formation of Police Chief Selection Committee, nationwide search commences in February. Community input will be solicited as part of transparent process.

SOMERVILLE - The City
of Somerville has begun its nationwide search for its next Chief of Police,
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced this week, beginning with a public
hearing last week
and the recent formation of the Police Chief Selection
Committee. Kicking off the process with its first organizational meeting, the
Committee will meet over the course of several months to review candidates and
select finalists to submit to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for
consideration.

WOMEN’S COMMISSION TO CELEBRATE 25th ANNIVERSARY MARCH 19

- The Somerville Commission for Women will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with
a special event to introduce the work of the commission and the active role of
commissioners in the community along with present the "Woman of Excellence
Award" and "Best Service Provider to Women Award" at the East
Somerville Community School from 6 to 8 p.m.
on March 19.

LARGEST RESIDENTIAL TAX BREAK IN STATE PROPOSED BY MAYOR

Proposed legislation would increase exemption on principal residences to 35 percent, City to explore additional exemption increases

- Somerville homeowners would receive the highest property tax exemption in the
state under a proposal submitted by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone to the Board of
Aldermen this week, and the City continues to explore increasing exemptions for
seniors, veterans, widows and those with disabilities that are already double
the state limits.

CITY ENDS NEGOTIATIONS WITH TUFTS ON POWDER HOUSE SCHOOL REDEVELOPMENT

Tufts unable to meet timetable on redevelopment of former school; Process to Proceed to Consideration of First Alternate Bidder

City of Somerville will re-open the process of finding a developer for
redevelopment of the Powder House Community School, due to Tufts University being
unable to meet the timetable terms on a land disposition agreement.
