Somerville Food Waste Collection Pilot Now Accepting Applications

Eligible households in East Somerville pilot area can turn food scraps into compost and help city plan for citywide food waste collection

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Office of Sustainability (OSE) are announcing that applications are now being accepted for households in East Somerville to join Somerville’s Food Waste Collection Pilot Program.

Eligible households must be located in the pilot neighborhood in a building with six units or fewer and not already have an active curbside composting subscription. The program will be limited to the first 1,200 households to sign up.

Somerville Expands Free Vaccine Clinics, Shares Updated Flu & COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance

The Somerville Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is expanding access to free vaccination clinics to help residents stay healthy through the fall and winter. They are also sharing updated flu and COVID-19 vaccine guidance for the 2025–26 season. Clinics will be held throughout the city from October 2025 through April 2026.

Somerville Annual Vigil Honoring Victims of Domestic Violence Oct. 28

Vigil will be held Tuesday, October 28, at 6 p.m. at Somernova

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, the Somerville Commission for Women, RESPOND, Inc., and the Department of Racial and Social Justice (RSJ) invite residents to attend the City’s annual Domestic Violence Vigil on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. This annual vigil is dedicated to commemorating the lives lost to domestic violence in the past year, recognizing the strength of survivors, and renewing our community’s shared commitment to eradicating domestic violence.
