The Somerville Community Preservation Committee (CPC) is holding its annual Community Preservation Plan public hearing on Wednesday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m.

The CPC holds a public hearing each year to identify community needs and priorities for Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. Testimony from the hearing informs the CPC's annual Community Preservation Plan update, which establishes how the year’s CPA funds will be allocated across affordable housing, historic resources, and open space categories.

The hearing will be held virtually. Visit somervillema.gov/CPA for the meeting link, or join by dialing 914-614-3221, access code 517-893-117. Written comments may also be submitted by Friday, April 1, to rcameron@somervillema.gov or Roberta Cameron, CPA Manager, Somerville City Hall, 3rd Floor, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 02143.

Residents can also share their ideas by taking the Community Preservation Committee survey at  somervillema.gov/CPA. Paper surveys are available at City Hall, Council on Aging locations, libraries, and other public sites throughout the city.

About the CPA

The CPA is a special City fund reserved for capital improvement projects related to open space/recreation and historic preservation, and for projects that help to create or support affordable housing. Since Somerville residents voted to adopt the CPA in 2012, CPA funds have supported improvements at 50 unique sites throughout the city. Recent projects include renovating the West Branch Library, Somerville Community Growing Center, Prospect Hill Park, and Lou Ann David Park; preserving the former church that houses the Somerville Hispanic Association in East Somerville; and installing an elevator at the Somerville Museum.
