Sunday, May 12th, 2-5pm. The 12th Annual Historic Bike Tour "Industrial Somerville, Past and Present" is co-sponsored with the Somerville Bike Committee. This year's theme will take us from one end of the City to the other, learning about Somerville's industrial growth and evolution.
The Annual Somerville Historic Bike Ride - this year's theme is "Somerville Industry: Past and Present"
Meet at Somerville City Hall at 2pm. The ride will proceed at a leisurely pace with stops at sites of interest around the city. It will conclude with light refreshments at the Somerville Museum. A donation of $3 is suggested.
The 2nd Annual Commuter Challenge -- a "race" between a driver, cyclist, and T rider to see who travels from Davis Square to Dewey Square the fastest. The three racers will have a send off at a breakfast block party at Redbones and celebrate again at the finish with a gathering at Dewey Sqare.
Sunday, May 5th, 1:30-4:30pm. Launching of "Seasonal Sundays" at the Milk Row Cemetery. The Docent Program started last year begins anew with an afternoon opening to the public of this fragile burial ground. Barbara Mangum, Objects Conservator and President of Historic Somerville, Inc.
The SHPC, in concert with Union Square Main Streets, is sponsoring a "Jane's Walk" to honor urban activist and writer, Jane Jacobs. A world-wide event, this year's walk will be a leisurely stroll through Union Square, to explore some of the mid 19th and early 20th century housing and industrial buildings that established the area as a place to both live and work.
