Drum Workshop for Seniors (Council on Aging)

Participants are immersed in music and rhythm from West Africa and beyond via hands-on drumming. Session includes basic instruction in drum sound production, simple rhythm, songs, stories, and movement. Join in with a variety of hand percussion instruments and by clapping, singing, and moving, or simply by listening and sharing energies.

FDIC: Money Smart (Council on Aging)

Representatives from Northern Bank will join us to discuss scams that target veterans. These scams use deceptive tactics to convince veterans and their loved ones that they are entitled to benefits due to their service. These scammers will try to enroll veterans into programs that may not be financially beneficial for them, while charging unnecessary fees.

Around Hear: The Search for Happiness (A Concert)

This concert is all about joy. Come out for ticklishly happy Mozart, a funny play with hilarious art by Somerville’s own Jef Czekaj, bassoonified pop tunes, a tender and transporting folk dance from China, a thrilling world premiere, and a lively set of 1930’s Caribbean tunes that will sending you prancing outside for an after-concert pizza party and lawn games.

Virtual Reality Experiences (Council on Aging)

Studies have found that virtual reality can help reduce stress, decrease isolation, reduce pain and lower fall risk. Virtual reality is a 3D, computer generated simulation that is accessed through wearing a headset. 

Meditation Experience: Monday June 15th at 2:00 p.m. - Relax though guided meditation in a calm and serene virtual reality environment.

Join the signature SCOA class in the East Somerville area. We’ll use a play ball, resistance band, and handheld weights to do seated exercises with optional standing strength and balance activities. Enjoy music while doing easy-to-follow functional movements that help support an independent and active lifestyle,
